STAY AT THE HALL

Experience a luxury country house escape amidst the vaulted halls and castellated towers of this historic home.  The Hall is the centrepiece of one of the most extraordinary private estates in England, with 28,000 acres to explore.

Guests can take part in a range of activities on the estate and nearby, including some of the finest fishing, walking and cycling in England.  Or they can stay closer to home, exploring the private walled garden and surrounds, extended for HM Queen Elizabeth II’s stay.

The Hall

Dating in part from the 14th century, The Hall is decorated with antiques, fine art and objects from the family’s private collection. Surrounded by moors and woodlands, the residence is accessed via a ‘hole-in-the-wall’ in the original monastic fortification, at the end of a sweeping drive.

Guests can relax within wood-panelled drawing rooms, enjoy a game of billiards or entertain in the vaulted Dining Hall.

The Rooms

The Hall’s 12 bedrooms, 10 of which were recently refurbished by Rita Konig, accommodate up to 22 people.  All are individual and furnished with items from the family’s eclectic collection of books, arts, photographs, and personal mementos.  Most rooms look across the manicured gardens to the 12th-century Bolton Priory Church and the River Wharfe beyond.

Dining

Breakfast and dinner, included in guests’ stay, are prepared by award-winning chefs who use ingredients sourced from the estate’s river, moors and gardens, and the best local producers.

Enjoy a banquet, dine on the terrace, or take afternoon tea in the drawing room.  The team will take care of your every need throughout your stay.

The Gardens

The landscaped gardens surrounding The Hall offer perfect places to relax with a book, have a picnic or enjoy an afternoon of croquet on the lawn.  Guests have exclusive access to the private walled kitchen and cutting garden.

Weddings and events

The Hall at Bolton Abbey provides a spectacular backdrop for weddings and events. Intimate weddings can be held in The Hall itself, while larger events can be accommodated in the grounds.

With exclusive access throughout your stay, The Hall is a uniquely private and unforgettable manor house to hire for weddings and other special events.

The Hall at Bolton Abbey is owned by the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire and their family, now offered as an exclusive stately home to rent in England.

The Hall was originally built between 1325 and 1374 as the gatehouse of an Augustinian priory. After the Dissolution of the Monasteries, it was converted into a small shooting house. The estate came to the Cavendish family (the Dukes of Devonshire) in 1758 after the death of Lady Charlotte Boyle, daughter of the 3rd Earl of Burlington, who had married the future 4th Duke of Devonshire in 1748. The Hall has been altered and enlarged over the centuries, including a substantial remodelling in the 1840s by the 6th Duke of Devonshire and the celebrated architect Sir Joseph Paxton, who later designed Crystal Palace for the 1851 Great Exhibition in London.

The Hall is only available as a private stately home rental on an exclusive-use basis.
