The ‘ultra-romantic’ gardens of Lismore Castle

Discover meadows, orchards, kitchen gardens and more…

Lismore Castle Gardens are the oldest continually cultivated gardens in Ireland, offering spectacular views of both the castle and the surrounding countryside of the Blackwater valley. Described by American Vogue magazine as ‘ultra-romantic’, the seven acres of gardens are open to the public by day, but exclusively for guests of Lismore Castle from early evening.

Our Head Gardener, Colm O’Driscoll, presents one of Ireland’s favourite horticultural TV shows, and is on hand to share the castle’s meadows, orchards, kitchen gardens, and extraordinary natural specimens with our guests. The kitchen garden provides endless produce for the head chef Teena, who makes everything from scratch for the castle guests – including jams, chutneys and juices. Guests also enjoy beautiful floral displays created for the castle’s interior from the gardens many cutting beds.

Among the meadows and orchards you’ll find a greenhouse designed by Sir Joseph Paxton, and sculpture by Eilís O’Connell, David Nash and Franz West, alongside Lismore Castle Arts, a gallery hosting internationally-renowned exhibitions. Exclusive evening activities can be arranged for guests – from decadent outdoor dinner parties to lively kids’ table tennis tournaments.

Every detail at Lismore has been carefully considered and overseen by the Devonshire Family and Lord and Lady Burlington, for whom this special sanctuary remains a private home.
