An exclusive stay at Lismore Castle

Discover the much-loved Irish home of the Duke & Duchess of Devonshire and their family.

Rising from the banks of the Blackwater River in County Waterford, Ireland, Lismore Castle is a sought-after, exclusive-use residence.

Lismore Castle is a place of extraordinary history. Built on the site of a 7th century Abbey, passing briefly through the hands of Sir Walter Raleigh and, more recently, the retreat of Adele Astaire, also known as Lady Charles Cavendish as the 9th Duke of Devonshire’s daughter-in-law. Adele’s brother Fred Astaire, Cecil Beaton, Lucian Freud and John F. Kennedy were all drawn to Lismore, and all spent a night or more in this, the oldest continuously inhabited castle in Ireland.

Despite its long history, modern luxuries are found throughout the castle today, with ensuite bathrooms, a cinema room, wifi and much more. Up to 27 guests can be accommodated, and all are attended by the family’s private staff, led by Denis Nevin, who has been the castle’s Butler for over 35 years.

Every detail at Lismore has been carefully considered and overseen by the Devonshire Family and Lord and Lady Burlington, for whom this special sanctuary remains a private home.
